A 32-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances near a garbage dump in a vacant plot in Ludhiana’s Dugri area on Saturday, prompting a police investigation.
The deceased was identified as Asha, a resident of the Arora Palace locality near Dana Mandi. Local residents spotted the body lying near a heap of garbage and alerted the police, who reached the spot and took the body into custody.
According to the victim’s sister, Bharti, Asha had left home on Saturday morning. Around noon, the family received information that a woman resembling Asha had been found dead in a vacant plot. When relatives arrived at the scene, they identified the body.
Bharti said Asha had not pursued higher education and was unemployed. She was reportedly living in a live-in relationship and is survived by her four-year-old daughter. The family stated that they had no known enmity with anyone.
Police said that during the post-mortem examination, doctors initially suspected that Asha may have died due to excessive drug consumption. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after detailed medical and forensic reports are received. Chemical samples have been collected from the body and sent for laboratory analysis.
Doctors also noted that the body was in a severely decomposed condition and appeared to have been partially mutilated by animals, suggesting it had remained exposed in the open for a considerable period.
Police have launched an investigation and are awaiting the forensic examination results to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
