An alleged attempt at sacrilege at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbakhsh Singh Ji, located within the Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib complex, has sparked anger and concern among the Sikh community.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a man reportedly picked up the Sri Sahib placed before the holy scripture inside the gurdwara. Alert sevadars immediately intervened, restrained the accused, and handed him over to the police.

Confirming the incident, Harmandir Sahib General Manager Major Singh strongly condemned the act. He said the approximately 35-year-old man had entered the gurdwara as a devotee, offered prayers, and walked around the shrine before suddenly lifting the Sri Sahib while the Akhand Path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was in progress.

The sevadars on duty quickly sensed the unusual activity and stopped the man before he could carry out any further action. He was subsequently handed over to the local administration and police authorities.

Major Singh said the Shiromani Committee has demanded strict legal action against the accused. Authorities are currently verifying the man's identity, background, and intentions, while also investigating whether he had any links to other individuals or organizations.

According to preliminary CCTV footage, the accused appears to have acted alone. Officials said the man is from another state, and no evidence of accomplices has emerged so far. Police have assured that a fair investigation will be conducted and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
