A horrific incident was reported in Chandigarh’s Daddu village late Saturday night, when a speeding Thar allegedly ran over three youths, killing one and seriously injuring two others. Police are investigating the incident as a suspected deliberate attack linked to an old rivalry rather than a road accident.

The deceased has been identified as Pawan, a resident of Indira Colony. His companions, Suraj and another youth, sustained serious injuries in the incident. All three were taken to Sector 16 Hospital, where doctors declared Pawan dead.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police have registered a case under sections related to murder, attempt to murder and other offences against Manpreet alias Kaka and Monu Jaiswal. Both suspects are reportedly absconding. Police teams have been formed to trace them, and raids have been conducted at their suspected hideouts.

Youths Were Standing Outside Hotel Royal Plaza

According to Suraj’s statement to police, he was standing outside Hotel Royal Plaza in Daddu village with Pawan and another youth at around 12:30 am when a Thar allegedly approached them at high speed and hit all three.

The impact was reportedly severe, leaving Pawan critically injured. People present at the spot rushed the injured youths to Sector 16 Hospital in a private vehicle. However, Pawan died before he could receive treatment.

The incident triggered protests and commotion at the hospital, where Pawan’s family members and friends demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

Old Rivalry and Instagram Argument Under Investigation

Pawan’s family and friends alleged that he had an ongoing dispute with some youths. They raised suspicion on several individuals, including Malkeet alias Kaka, Monu Jaiswal, Kandu and Govinda, among others.

During the preliminary investigation, police reportedly found that the two groups had argued on Instagram a few days earlier. The dispute allegedly escalated an existing rivalry.

Based on the allegations and preliminary findings, police are now investigating whether the Thar was deliberately used to target Pawan and his companions.

Forensic Team Examines Crime Scene

Police collected evidence from the spot and called in a forensic team, which examined the area and gathered crucial evidence.

The Industrial Area police are also scanning CCTV footage from the scene and surrounding areas. Investigators are trying to establish how many vehicles were present at the time, the direction from which the Thar approached, and which vehicles left the area immediately after the incident.

Police are also examining the movements of the suspects before and after the incident and are working to establish who was driving the Thar at the time of the alleged attack.
