A medical student was brutally murdered in Patiala, where his blood-soaked body was found inside a paying guest (PG) accommodation in New Lal Bagh Colony. Police said the victim had severe injuries on his head caused by a sharp-edged weapon.
The incident is believed to have taken place on Sunday night, while the crime came to light on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Kamal Kumar, a resident of Bareta in Mansa. He was staying in the PG accommodation in Patiala for his studies. After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem examination. The victim’s family members also reached Patiala later in the evening.
According to Kamal’s father, he had spoken to his son over the phone around 10 PM on Sunday night. He said Kamal sounded completely normal during the conversation and had informed the family that he had already eaten dinner.
During the investigation, police found that a youth identified as Mohit, who was known to Kamal, had come to stay with him a day before the murder.
Mohit has been missing since the incident, and police suspect his involvement in the killing.
CCTV footage from nearby cameras reportedly shows Mohit leaving the area after the crime. Police teams are conducting raids to trace the accused and further investigation is underway.
