Nearly 21 lakh parents participated in the Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) organised across 19,200 government schools in all 23 districts of Punjab, highlighting efforts to strengthen parental involvement in school education.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains expressed gratitude to parents for participating in the initiative and reposing their trust in government schools. He also congratulated officials of the School Education Department for successfully organising the meetings.

Held under the theme “Har Din, Ik Kadam Agge” (Every Day, One Step Forward), the Mega PTM provided a platform for parents and teachers to discuss students’ academic progress, attendance, classroom performance, strengths and areas requiring additional support. Departmental officials also visited around 2,000 schools to review arrangements and observe the conduct of the meetings.

Bains said the initiative went beyond report cards and examination results, focusing on meaningful interaction between parents and teachers to understand each child's learning needs and ensure timely academic support.

During one-on-one discussions, teachers shared students’ report cards and provided feedback on their classroom performance, attendance and learning outcomes. Parents were also guided on practical ways to support their children’s education at home and work with teachers to address learning gaps.

The Education Minister said the Mega PTM also served as an opportunity to familiarise parents with various student-support initiatives being implemented by the School Education Department. He appreciated the contribution of School Management Committee (SMC) members in school development and in strengthening community participation.

The initiative is part of Punjab Sikhiya Kranti, the state government's flagship program aimed at improving the quality of school education through collaboration among teachers, parents and the wider school community.

Emphasising that every child learns at a different pace, Bains said consistent encouragement at home, combined with focused academic support at school, could help improve learning outcomes. He added that the meetings enabled parents to better understand their children's educational needs and identify steps to support their progress.

Reiterating the Punjab Government's commitment to making government schools more inclusive and focused on learning, Bains said the central message of the Mega PTM was that every child matters and that parents and teachers must work together to help students realise their full potential.
