A suspected gang of minor thieves is reportedly active in Mohali after a burglary was reported from the city’s upscale Phase-3B1 area. The incident took place on Wednesday at a Verka booth located near the main gate of Rose Garden.
According to the booth operator, the thieves first broke the shutter and then stole cash, expensive items, and several food products kept inside the outlet. The stolen goods included chocolates, tins of ghee, biscuits, and other edible items.
In an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, the burglars allegedly damaged some CCTV cameras installed at the booth and removed others before fleeing the spot. The family running the booth has lodged a complaint with the police, but the accused have not been arrested so far.
Local residents said the Rose Garden is usually crowded with children, and the suspects are believed to have used this to their advantage. They reportedly spent time in the area during the day to conduct a recce before carrying out the theft.
The incident has raised concerns among shopkeepers and booth operators in the area, who fear that such crimes could increase if strict action is not taken quickly. Police have started an investigation and are examining the available evidence to identify the culprits.
