Following Chandigarh's model, the Mohali Municipal Corporation is preparing to regulate the feeding of stray dogs by allowing it only at designated locations across the city. As part of the initiative, the civic body has proposed 47 community dog-feeding points spread across 13 sectors and phases.
Residents will be permitted to feed stray dogs only at these identified locations. Before finalising the plan, the Municipal Corporation has invited suggestions and objections from the public. Feedback will be accepted for seven days, after which the list of feeding points will be reviewed and finalised.
The proposed locations have been identified based on a ground survey conducted in collaboration with NGO Paws People, taking into account factors such as pedestrian movement, traffic flow, public safety, sanitation, and local requirements.
Officials clarified that the current list is only a draft proposal. The final locations will be decided after reviewing inputs from residents, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and dog feeders. Those objecting to any proposed feeding point will be required to provide clear and valid reasons for their objections.
To make the consultation process accessible, the Municipal Corporation has provided three ways for citizens to submit their feedback. Suggestions and objections can be emailed to mcmmoh0@gmail.com, submitted through the online form available on the Municipal Corporation's official website, or filed offline with the Nodal Officer (Dog Control Cell) at the Health Officer's Office, Municipal Corporation Building (R-36), Lower Third Floor, Sector 68, Mohali.
