Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat has urged farmers across the state to adopt crop diversification and shift towards high-value horticultural crops to improve their income and ensure better returns.

Bhagat said crop diversification is important not only for increasing farmers’ earnings but also for making the horticulture sector more sustainable and profitable. He encouraged farmers to explore the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flowers, along with mushroom production and other high-value horticultural activities.

Minister said farmers should choose crops by considering market demand, soil potential and local climatic conditions. He added that such diversification can open up new and more profitable sources of income.

Punjab Government is promoting modern technology, efficient irrigation systems, protected cultivation, post-harvest management, cold-chain infrastructure and value addition to strengthen the horticulture sector, Bhagat said.

These initiatives are aimed at providing farmers with better facilities and support throughout the process, from production to marketing.

Bhagat also urged farmers to contact their nearest Horticulture Office to avail themselves of the benefits available under various schemes being implemented by the Horticulture Department.
