The growing monkey menace in Chandigarh has become a major concern for residents, with several attacks reported in recent days. In the latest incident, a woman was injured after being attacked by a monkey in Sector 22B on Saturday.
According to local residents, the monkey bit the woman on her leg at three places, leaving her seriously injured. She later received medical treatment and was administered anti-rabies injections as a precaution.
Residents claim that at least four people have been bitten by monkeys across the city so far. The animals are frequently seen roaming through residential areas, rooftops and narrow lanes, creating fear among locals.
The situation has become particularly worrying for families, many of whom are hesitant to allow children and elderly members to step outside alone. Residents say monkeys often chase people carrying food and snatch eatables from their hands.
To keep the animals away, some households have placed langur cutouts on their rooftops, a commonly used deterrent against monkeys. However, locals are urging authorities to take effective measures to control the increasing monkey population and prevent further attacks.
