Monsoon conditions remained active across several districts of Punjab on Friday, bringing widespread rainfall and keeping temperatures under check in many parts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, Pathankot recorded the highest rainfall at 32.0 mm, followed by Rupnagar with 26.9 mm and Patiala with 23.2 mm. Other rainfall figures included Barnala 16.5 mm, Ludhiana 8.1 mm, Kapurthala 4.0 mm, Chandigarh 3.8 mm and Amritsar 3.5 mm.
Light rainfall was also reported from SBS Nagar and Jalandhar. The continuous showers had a noticeable impact on temperatures, especially in Pathankot, where the day temperature was recorded at 27.9°C and the night temperature at 27.1°C, showing almost no variation between day and night conditions.
In Amritsar, the maximum temperature settled at 30.6°C, while the minimum was 27.8°C. Most other districts recorded day temperatures between 31°C and 33°C.
India Meteorological Department has forecast that monsoon activity will remain active till August 5. However, the intensity of the system is expected to gradually decrease over the next few days.
Districts located along the Himachal Pradesh border are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while light to moderate rain is expected across the remaining parts of Punjab.
From August 6 onwards, the monsoon is expected to weaken, and the state may witness a decline in rainfall activity, raising the possibility of a dry spell in the following days.
