Southwest monsoon has become active once again in Himachal Pradesh, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a fresh warning for widespread rainfall across the state. According to the IMD’s Shimla centre, most parts of Himachal are likely to experience light to moderate rain from July 31 to August 6, with heavy rainfall expected at several locations during the period.
The weather department has urged residents and tourists to remain cautious, monitor official weather updates, and avoid visiting areas prone to landslides and flash floods.
IMD has issued heavy rain warnings for different districts on various days between July 31 and August 6. In addition, strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are likely in the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is also expected in the state’s lower and mid-hill regions, increasing the risk of weather-related disruptions.
According to district-level forecasts, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Una are likely to receive heavy rainfall on different days during the warning period. Continuous rainfall may trigger landslides, road blockages, waterlogging, and disruptions to transport and essential services in several areas.
Authorities have advised people living near rivers, streams, and hill slopes to stay alert and follow local administration advisories until the weather system weakens.
