The IPL 2022 mega auction is around the corner and the two-day event will be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. As the IPL enters its 15th edition, there have been many batters who have set the stage on fire each season with their techniques as well as power-hitting abilities.
While the IPL schedule is yet to be announced, it has been reported that the 15th edition of the marquee tournament will get underway on March 27. With 10 teams playing the tournament this time, the final of the clash is expected to play towards the June end. Here’s a look at the batters with most runs in the tournament.
IPL 2022: Batters with most runs in the competition
Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli is the all-timing leading run-scorer in IPL history as of now having amassed 6283 runs from 207 matches averaging 37.39 and a strike rate of 129.94 including five centuries and 42 half-centuries. His best season was in 2016 where he had notched up four hundreds and finished the season with 973 runs to his name as the Royals Challengers Bangalore made the finals. The batting megastar has been retained by RCB for IPL 2022 but, he won’t be leading the side.
Shikhar Dhawan: Kohli’s Indian teammate and good friend Shikhar Dhawan occupies the second position with 5784 runs from 192 games averaging 34.84 and a strike rate of 126.64 including two hundreds and 44 fifties. The southpaw was released by Delhi Capitals just months before the IPL 2022 mega auction and now, it remains to be seen who would be keen to rope in Dhawan for this season of the cash-rich tournament.
Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in the history of IPL having led the Mumbai Indians to a record five titles and a now-defunct CLT20 title in 2013. Apart from his tactical captaincy, the ‘Hitman’ is also third-highest run-getter in the IPL having amassed 5611 runs from 213 outings averaging 31.17 and a strike rate of 130.39 which includes a century and 40 half-centuries. Rohit has been retained by MI and he will be leading them in IPL 2022.
Suresh Raina: Suresh Raina had earned the nickname ‘Mr. IPL’ back when he used to top the charts as far as the run-scorers are concerned but, has now slipped down to the fourth position mainly after having missed the 2020 edition due to personal reasons. Raina has scored 5528 runs from 205 outings averaging 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.73 that include a century and 49 half-centuries. The southpaw was not retained by CSK owing to his underwhelming returns in the 2021 season and it would be interesting to see if the defending champions retain him during the IPL 2022 mega auction.
David Warner: David Warner has had a memorable IPL career amassing 5449 runs from 150 matches averaging 41.59 at a strike rate of 139.96 including four centuries and fifty half-centuries. The dynamic opener has won the Orange Cap award twice in 2015 and 2017. The T20 World Cup winner was sacked from captaincy and not retained by the 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad and now, all the teams would be looking forward to bringing him on board in the IPL 2022 auction.
