Three young men were killed in a tragic road accident late Saturday night near the Jodiyan Canal on Kotkapura Road in Punjab's Faridkot district after their motorcycle rammed into the rear of a stationary truck.
The victims were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Kotkapura when the accident occurred. The deceased have been identified as Navjot Singh (30), Ravi (28), and Jaswinder "Jass" (24), all residents of Dogar Basti and close friends.
Navjot Singh and Jaswinder Jass died on the spot, while Ravi succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident, took the bodies into custody, and initiated further legal proceedings.
According to Ranjit Singh, uncle of the deceased Navjot Singh, the truck had broken down and was parked in the middle of the road without any warning indicators, reflectors, or safety signs. He alleged that the truck was not visible in the darkness, leading to the fatal collision.
Former councillor Babbi Bhau also expressed grief over the incident, stating that the tragedy could possibly have been avoided if proper safety warnings had been placed behind the stranded truck. He noted that all three victims belonged to economically weaker families and earned their livelihood through daily labour.
He urged the administration to take strict action against those who leave broken-down vehicles unattended on roads without adequate safety measures and demanded financial assistance for the bereaved families.
