Three youths lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Jalandhar-Delhi National Highway near the Goraya overbridge in the early hours of the morning when their motorcycle rammed into the rear of a truck.
The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the three victims were travelling from Jalandhar towards Ludhiana on a Splendor motorcycle. According to preliminary information, the bike collided with a postal parcel truck moving ahead of it. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle became lodged nearly 10 feet underneath the truck.
Eyewitnesses said the bike was dragged deep under the vehicle, making rescue operations extremely difficult. A Hydra crane was later used to remove the truck and retrieve the damaged motorcycle.
Officials of the Road Safety Force (SSF) said they received information about the accident through the 112 control room. Upon reaching the spot, the team found the motorcycle trapped beneath the truck and the three youths lying injured on the road. They were rushed to Phillaur Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared all three dead.
Police recovered mobile phones from the victims' pockets and are working to identify and contact their families. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. Authorities suspect the truck may have applied sudden brakes, leaving the motorcycle rider with little time to react. The truck driver was missing from the scene after the crash, and efforts are underway to trace him.
Police have launched a detailed investigation and are examining all possible angles to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
