Consumers in Himachal Pradesh will have to pay ₹19 more per litre for mustard oil at government ration depots this month. The price has been increased from ₹160 to ₹179 per litre, adding to the financial burden on households amid rising inflation.

Himachal Pradesh has around 19.5 lakh ration cardholders, and approximately 30,000 litres of mustard oil are consumed through the public distribution system every month. For the past nearly seven months, consumers have been receiving only mustard oil as refined oil has not been supplied. Accordingly, eligible consumers are being provided two litres of mustard oil.

This time, the tenders for mustard oil supply have been awarded to Gokul Agri International Limited and Shakti Nutritions Private Limited. Following an increase in mustard oil prices in the open market, the state corporation has also revised the rates at ration depots.

Officials said that tenders have been awarded to companies offering comparatively lower prices. However, consumers will still have to bear the increased cost.

Meanwhile, APL (Above Poverty Line) ration cardholders have received some relief as their monthly wheat flour quota has been increased. From November, they will receive 14 kg of flour instead of the 13 kg supplied in October.
