Goa Police have registered a medico-legal case of unnatural death following the reported death of actor Nana Patekar. According to news agency IANS, the case was registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). PSI Nitin Naik is investigating the matter.
According to the police case registered in Panaji, Patekar was brought to Manipal Hospital in Bambolim from Ocean Park in Dona Paula, Goa, on Thursday morning. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was subsequently sent to the mortuary at Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said cardiac arrest appeared to be the preliminary cause. He added that the actor had a history of heart disease and was undergoing treatment. Police will examine the post-mortem findings and statements from family members as part of the investigation.

Nana Patekar’s last rites were performed late Thursday night at a farmhouse in Pune. Speaking to news agency ANI, his son, Malhar Patekar, said the family was in Goa and transporting the body to Pune took time. As the actor had passed away early in the morning, the family decided to complete the last rites on Thursday itself.
Malhar paid tribute to his father, saying that a person like Nana Patekar would remain immortal through his achievements and contributions.
Malhar also confirmed that the social welfare initiatives carried out by the Naam Foundation in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region would continue. He said the organisation’s work would be accelerated under the supervision of CEO Ganesh Thorat, ensuring that the actor’s social service legacy continues.
