India’s Olympic and world champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of the Asian Games scheduled for September after suffering an ankle injury. The athlete shared the update through an Instagram post on Saturday.
Chopra revealed that he sustained the injury during training shortly after registering his season-best throw at the Lausanne Diamond League. Medical examinations confirmed a ligament tear in his ankle, forcing him to withdraw from upcoming competitions.
As a result, Chopra will miss the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 5. He has also pulled out of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, set to be held in Budapest from September 11 to 13.
Expressing his disappointment, Chopra said he felt he was finally regaining his rhythm after months of hard work. His season-best throw of 88.05 metres in Lausanne had been a strong indication that he was returning to top form before the injury setback.
