India secured its fifth gold medal at the Asian Games after shooter Neeru Dhanda won the women’s trap event on Tuesday, creating history as the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the discipline.
The 26-year-old Dhanda produced a strong performance in the final, hitting 28 of 30 targets to claim the top spot. Her victory added another gold to India’s growing medal tally.
Dhanda had earlier helped India win a silver medal in the team trap event, alongside Ashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. China won the gold medal in the team competition.
India also added a bronze medal in boxing, with Narender finishing on the podium. Meanwhile, Indian boxers Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal have advanced to their respective finals, keeping India in contention for more medals.
With five gold medals among 47 medals overall, India could reach the 50-medal mark later on Tuesday.
