A man allegedly killed his maternal uncle by striking him on the neck with an axe during a drinking session in Mohali on Monday night. The attack was so severe that the victim’s head was severed from his body. Police found blood splattered inside the room after the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Kamesar Rai, a resident of Jaula Kalan, while the accused has been identified as Ramji Rai, a native of Balihaarpur village in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.
According to police, several labourers were staying in a room at Jaswant Singh’s motor room opposite Radha Soami Bhawan in Jaula Kalan. Kamesar Rai and his nephew Ramji Rai were both working as labourers in the area. The two reportedly had an old dispute and had also quarrelled a few days ago.
Police said that on the night of September 1, several people had gathered to drink alcohol. During the session, Kamesar and Ramji got into an argument over an earlier issue. The dispute escalated, following which Ramji allegedly picked up an axe and attacked Kamesar on the neck, killing him on the spot.
After receiving information about the incident, police from Handesra police station reached the spot and launched an investigation. Acting under the leadership of Station House Officer Sunil Kumar, police arrested Ramji Rai.
The victim’s body has been kept in the Civil Hospital mortuary.
The post-mortem examination will be conducted after his family members arrive. Police are expected to produce the accused before a court and seek his remand. Investigators will question him during the remand period to establish the exact motive and gather further details related to the murder.
