NAWANSHAHR: Recently a newborn baby suffering from severe infections got a new life after being successfully treated at the IVY Hospital in Nawanshahr.
Giving information, Dr Karan Arora, Consultant-Pediatrician and Neonatologist at IVY Hospital who treated the child, said that the parents of the child from Kopowal village had reached Ivy Hospital on the night of June 10 with their child in a critical condition.
Dr Karan further told that the condition of the child was very bad. He had a weak heart beat, oxygen saturation level was only 30 percent and had skin problems as well as cyanosis (blueness) on the skin. The child was immediately placed on the ventilator.
The next morning the echo test showed severe persistent pulmonary pressure (PPHN) in the heart and a cerebral spinal fluid test (CSF) found infection in the lungs and brain (bacterial meningitis).
The condition of the child was very critical but "still we tried our best to save his life". Dr Karan Arora said higher antibiotics were introduced as part of treatment.
Dr Karan told that after 4 days of treatment the child opened his eyes and his condition gradually improved over the next few days. The child was discharged on 23 June in stable condition requiring a complete antibiotic course of 21 days.
