A tragic incident has emerged from Boothgarh village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, where a newlywed couple allegedly died by suicide after consuming a poisonous substance. The family has accused a relative of blackmailing and mentally harassing the husband, prompting police to register a case.
The deceased, 31-year-old Gurkarmdeep Singh, was an architect by profession. He had married 23-year-old Jasmine Nagra in a love marriage around four months ago. According to family members, the couple had been living happily after their wedding until recent events took a devastating turn.
Gurkarmdeep’s mother, Sindarpal Kaur, alleged that Navjot Kaur alias Deep, a relative who is considered his sister-in-law in the extended family, remained in contact with him after his marriage. The family claims that she had been blackmailing Gurkarmdeep for money and subjecting him to mental harassment.
Relatives said Gurkarmdeep had been under severe stress for some time. On Sunday night, allegedly unable to cope with the mounting pressure, he consumed a poisonous substance kept at home. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but was declared dead by doctors.
The news of her husband’s death reportedly left Jasmine devastated. Family members said she was inconsolable and repeatedly expressed despair over her future. A short while later, she too allegedly consumed poison and was admitted to a hospital, where she died during treatment on Monday morning.
Based on the statement of the deceased’s mother, the Sadar Police Station has registered a case against Navjot Kaur alias Deep under charges related to abetment of suicide. Further investigation is underway.
