The long-standing demand of residents and farmers of Machhli Kalan and adjoining villages for a service road has received a major boost with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) granting in-principle approval for the service road connecting NH-205A at Chainage 4+600 in Machhli Kalan with NH-205AG at Chainage 6+600 in Pawala.

The decision has brought relief and happiness among residents of Machhli Kalan, Pawala, Gadoulian, Biro Majri, Chud Majra and other adjoining villages.

According to the NHAI Project Implementation Unit, Chandigarh, the competent authority has accorded in-principle approval for the proposed service road. The official communication states that the work has been authorized from September 25, 2026, connecting NH-205A at Chainage 4+600 in Machhli Kalan with NH-205AG at Chainage 6+600 in Pawala.

The proposed service road will provide an important local connectivity link between Machhli Kalan and Pawala. Residents had been raising concerns regarding local movement following the development of the new highway corridor and had been demanding a dedicated service road to ensure smoother access for surrounding villages.

The village representatives expressed their gratitude to Sh. V. Uma Shankar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Chairman, NHAI, New Delhi, Sh. Rakesh Kumar, CGM (Technical)-cum-Regional Officer, NHAI, Regional Office Chandigarh, the concerned project officials and the Punjab Government.

Those welcoming the decision included former Block Samiti member Pankaj Nagrath, former Sarpanch Ram Singh Kaku, Karan Pawala, Joga Pawala, Zila Parishad member from Chunni Zone Sukhdev Singh Pappu, Lovely Pawala, Machhli Kalan Sarpanch Rakesh Kumar, along with members of the concerned village panchayats and local residents.

The Gram Panchayats and residents of Machhli Kalan, Pawala, Gadoulian, Biro Majri and Chud Majra expressed their gratitude to NHAI and the Punjab Government, saying the approval has brought the long-pending demand one step closer to implementation and is expected to improve connectivity for the entire surrounding area.
