National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the bomb blast that occurred on April 27 this year on the Shambhu–Rajpura railway track, part of the Dedicated Freight Corridor. After registering an FIR in the case, the agency arrested Gurjinder Singh alias Baba Beant from Patiala Jail on a production warrant.

The NIA presented the accused before a special NIA court in Mohali and obtained an eight-day remand for further interrogation.

During the court proceedings, the agency argued that detailed questioning of the accused was necessary to investigate his alleged connections with handlers based in Pakistan, Malaysia, and other foreign countries. The NIA told the court that the interrogation could help uncover the broader conspiracy behind the railway track blast.

After hearing the arguments, the court granted the agency's request and remanded the accused to NIA custody for eight days. The investigation is now focused on identifying the full network of individuals and foreign links allegedly involved in planning and executing the attack.
