The Chandigarh Education Department has announced measures to ensure that parents of students studying in government schools face no inconvenience while depositing school fees.
The department has also clarified that no late fee is charged for fee payments made through the SMIS portal, providing relief to parents concerned about payment delays.
During a review meeting on the implementation of the SMIS fee portal, Education Director Nitish Singla directed all government schools to establish special SMIS Helpdesks. These helpdesks will assist parents with fee payment, student registration, re-verification, and other portal-related issues.
The department said designated school staff will be available to guide parents and resolve technical or procedural problems associated with the portal, making the fee submission process more convenient.
The Education Director emphasized that Chandigarh government schools do not have any late fee policy, and no additional charges are imposed for delayed fee payments through the SMIS portal. Parents have been advised not to worry about delays in depositing fees.
However, the department clarified that late fees related to CBSE registration, wherever applicable, are separate and are charged strictly according to CBSE guidelines. These charges are deposited directly into the CBSE account and are not linked to the SMIS portal.
The department also reiterated that students from Pre-Primary to Class VIII in Chandigarh government schools are exempt from paying any fees. For students in higher classes, parents have the flexibility to pay fees monthly, quarterly, annually, or for multiple periods together, depending on their convenience.
Necessary instructions regarding these provisions have been issued to all government school principals across Chandigarh to ensure smooth implementation and better support for parents.
