A tragic accident took place late at night in Bathinda when a car fell into the Sirhind Canal, resulting in the death of one youth and leaving two others seriously injured. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, all three youths in the car were residents of Uttar Pradesh and were learning to drive. During this, the speeding car went out of control and plunged straight into the canal.
As soon as the accident happened, nearby people immediately informed the Police Control Room (PCR). Upon receiving the information, the PCR team from Bathinda reached the spot and began the rescue operation. The rescue was extremely challenging due to darkness and the strong flow of water, but the police managed to pull all three occupants out of the submerged vehicle after significant effort.
However, by the time they were rescued, one of the youths had already lost his life. The other two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition remains critical. Doctors are currently treating them.
Initial investigation suggests that the three youths were practicing driving late at night. The car, travelling at high speed, suddenly went out of control, broke through the railing, and fell into the canal. Police are now probing the matter further and verifying the vehicle details and identities of the youths.
The incident has caused panic in the area. Local residents say that many vehicles speed through this stretch at night and similar accidents have occurred here in the past. The police have appealed to people to drive cautiously, especially at dangerous turns, and to avoid late-night driving practice without proper experience.
