Nearly a year after a fatal road accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old youth, the victim's family has been awarded ₹18.35 lakh in compensation by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Panchkula.
The compensation will be shared among the deceased's parents and two minor sisters, who were declared the legal beneficiaries. The tribunal passed the order while deciding a compensation petition filed by the family.
The petition was filed by the parents and two minor sisters of Vikas (20), a resident of Nada Sahib, who had sought ₹3 crore in compensation.
According to the petition, the accident occurred on April 25, 2025, when Vikas was riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle with his friend Rahul from Majri Chowk towards Kang Farm, Nada Sahib. As they reached the Ghaggar Bridge, a truck bearing a Himachal Pradesh registration number allegedly hit their motorcycle from behind.
The impact threw both riders off the bike. Vikas fell onto the road and was run over by the truck, while Rahul was thrown to the other side of the road and sustained injuries.
Vikas was rushed to Sector-6 Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Following the accident, an FIR was registered against the truck driver at Chandimandir Police Station.
