Fazilka police have arrested three youths allegedly involved in cross-border smuggling of weapons and narcotics from Pakistan through drones. The police recovered two imported Glock pistols, four cartridges, 50 grams of heroin, and three mobile phones from their possession.
Sharing details of the operation, SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said that a police team led by Sadar Police Station SHO Hardev Singh Bedi was conducting routine patrolling and checking on the Fazilka–Ferozepur road when they intercepted three suspicious youths travelling on a motorcycle. During the search, the police recovered illegal firearms and heroin from them.
The arrested accused are residents of Ferozepur district. During preliminary interrogation, they revealed that the consignment of weapons had been received from Pakistan through a drone around 15 to 20 days ago. The accused also admitted that they had previously received heroin consignments from across the border.
According to the police, the trio had recently joined hands to start a cross-border smuggling network. However, before they could distribute their first major consignment, they were apprehended by the police. Further investigation is underway to trace their links and identify other members of the smuggling network.
