Newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh arrived in Punjab for the first time after taking charge of the state unit and visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar to seek blessings.

Pargat Singh reached Amritsar airport from Delhi at around 9 am along with Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot. Congress leaders and workers welcomed them at the airport with drums.

From the airport, Pargat Singh headed directly to the Golden Temple to pay obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib. During the visit, Sachin Pilot was seen driving Pargat Singh’s car.

Speaking at the Golden Temple, Pargat Singh said he had come to offer prayers and express gratitude at Sri Darbar Sahib. “Today is not a day for politics. I will certainly do politics, but after a day or two,” he said.

Pargat Singh is also scheduled to visit religious places representing different faiths in Amritsar. He may subsequently hold a meeting with the Punjab Congress leadership in Mohali. He is also scheduled to visit Mata Chintpurni in Himachal Pradesh the following day.

Pargat Singh was appointed Punjab Congress president on October 3, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Before returning to Punjab, he met Warring in Delhi.

After the meeting, Pargat Singh said the Congress was united in Punjab. He said leaders could have different opinions, describing it as the beauty of democracy, and asserted that the party would contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections together.
