A woman was brutally murdered after being attacked with a baseball bat and shot twice in Punjab’s Patiala district on Wednesday night. An auto-rickshaw driver also sustained gunshot injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital.
The attack took place around 8:15 pm near the old bus stand in Patran town. The deceased has been identified as Dilpreet Kaur, a resident of Sundar Basti, while the injured auto driver has been identified as Lakhvir Singh.
According to preliminary information, Dilpreet Kaur had just alighted from a bus and was heading home when unidentified assailants intercepted her. The attackers allegedly assaulted her with a baseball bat before opening fire, shooting her twice. During the attack, Lakhvir Singh was also hit by gunfire and suffered serious injuries.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, Patran police station SHO Inspector Gagandeep Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot and launched an investigation. The police have started examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers and establish the sequence of events.
SHO Gagandeep Singh Siddh said that investigators are probing all possible angles, including the motive behind the murder. He added that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.wounded; police scan CCTV footage to trace assailants.
