A petrol bomb was hurled at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district office in Punjab's Sangrur, damaging a portion of the building's boundary wall. The explosive was reportedly thrown from the road adjacent to the office during the early hours of Sunday.
Police and other security agencies rushed to the scene after the incident came to light and immediately cordoned off the area. An investigation has been launched, with officials examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify those responsible. According to police, the attack is believed to have taken place around 3 a.m., although the exact timing is being verified through surveillance footage.
A local BJP leader said the office caretaker informed him about the fire on Monday morning and shared photographs of the damage. He claimed that the matter was immediately reported to Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon, following which party workers and the police reached the site.
Condemning the attack, the BJP leader alleged that Punjab's law and order situation had deteriorated significantly, citing recent incidents of explosions at police stations and attacks on political offices. He accused the state government of failing to ensure public safety.
