Extensive traffic restrictions have been imposed in Chandigarh ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab Engineering College (PEC), prompting several schools to suspend bus services and issue advisories to parents.
Schools have requested parents to personally drop off and pick up their children, citing road closures and traffic diversions. The affected routes include Khudda Ali Sher, Housing Board, Lahora, PEC and Nayagaon. Both government and private schools have circulated notices informing parents about the changes.
Some schools have also revised their dispersal timings, scheduling early dismissal at 12:30 pm. The Prime Minister is expected to arrive at 1:30 pm, with traffic restrictions coming into effect well before his arrival.
According to the Chandigarh Traffic Police advisory, the road connecting PEC and Nayagaon will remain closed, and commuters have been advised to avoid the stretch until 3:00 pm. The route from the Chandigarh–Nayagaon Barrier via the PEC Light Point to Sectors 23, 10 and 11 will remain completely closed during the security arrangements.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to travel from the airport to Rajendra Park by helicopter before proceeding to Punjab Engineering College by road.
Under the primary route plan, the convoy will move from Rajendra Park through the road between the Punjab and Haryana Chief Ministers' residences and continue along Vigyan Path to reach PEC.
An alternate route has also been kept ready, which passes outside the Punjab Chief Minister's residence and connects to the road leading towards Nayagaon before reaching the college.
Authorities have urged residents to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic personnel to ensure smooth movement during the Prime Minister's visit.
