Police delivers another blow to trans-border narcotic networks, 5kg more heroin recovered from Amritsar; three held

Arrested persons retrieved drug consignment dropped via drone from border village : DGP

Delivering yet another blow to the trans-border narcotic networks amidst the ongoing war against drugs waged on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has arrested three drug smugglers after recovering 5kg heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

This is the second consignment of 5kg heroin being recovered from Amritsar in a single day, while, around 27.2kg heroin has been recovered from Amritsar in less than a week.

Those arrested have been identified as Rasal Singh of village Naushehra in Tarn Taran, Jaskaran Singh of Vanieke in Amritsar and Amritpal Singh of Sahura in Amritsar. Apart from recovering drug consignment, Police teams have also impounded a Yamaha Scooter bearing registration number PB-02-DW-4187, on which he was travelling.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the CI Amritsar has received a reliable input that accused Rasal Singh, Jaskaran Singh and Amritpal Singh have retrieved a huge consignment of narcotics dropped using a Drone at border village Dhanoe falls under jurisdiction of Police Station Gharinda.

Acting swiftly on the inputs, he said that Police teams from CI Amritsar led by DSP CI Balbir Singh laid a naka at Baghdhian Morh in village Ranike in Amritsar and apprehended the trio accused persons along with 5kg heroin. Probe revealed that all the arrested accused persons were directly in touch with Pak-based drug smugglers, he added.

The DGP said that videography of the entire search and seizure process has been done in presence of Gazetted Officer as per provisions of new criminal laws. Investigations are on to establish backward and forward linkages in this case, he added.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 37 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.

Total recovery reaches to 27.2kg heroin in five days

June 28: Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted two separate cross-border drug smuggling cartels being operated by Pakistan-based smugglers with the arrest of three drug traffickers after recovering 9.2Kg heroin (8.2Kg+1Kg) from their possession.

June 29: Amritsar Rural Police busted two more Pak-backed drug smuggling rackets with the arrest of six persons after recovering 8kg heroin and three pistols from their possession

July 2: Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested drug smuggler identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha of Khemkaran after recovering 5kg heroin from his possession

July 2: Counter Intelligence Amritsar has arrested three drug smugglers after recovering 5kg heroin from their possession
