India’s Preeti Pawar delivered a commanding performance to win the gold medal in women’s 54kg boxing, defeating Canada’s Scarlett Delgado by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final.
Preeti dominated all three rounds of the bout, with all five judges awarding her 10 points in every round, while Delgado received 9 points each time. The Indian boxer sealed the contest with a perfect scorecard, underlining her complete control throughout the final.
After the opening round, Preeti had already established a clear lead, with judges scoring it 10-9 in her favour across the board. She maintained the same intensity in the second round, again earning unanimous 10-point scores to move ahead 20-18 overall before comfortably closing out the match in the final round.
The victory adds another significant international medal to India’s boxing tally and highlights Preeti’s growing stature in the women’s boxing circuit.
Meanwhile, India also produced strong performances in men’s triple jump. Praveen Chithravel moved into first place with a jump of 16.58 metres on his fourth attempt. Fellow Indian Selva Prabhu climbed to third place after registering 16.17 metres on his second attempt.
In para athletics, Ramesh Shanmugam finished seventh in the men’s 1500m T54 final, clocking 3:23.59 minutes after competing in a closely contested race.
