The Punjab government’s sustained and well-planned efforts in the field of energy efficiency and conservation under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann have earned national recognition. Punjab has secured the second position in the State Performance Category of the National Energy Conservation Awards–2025, placing the state among the top performers in the country.

The prestigious award was received by Punjab New and Renewable Energy Resources Minister Aman Arora from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at the National Energy Conservation Awards–2025 ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Speaking to the media after receiving the award, Aman Arora said the honour reflects the Punjab government’s strong commitment to promoting energy efficiency through focused and continuous initiatives.

He highlighted that the state government has taken several significant steps to strengthen infrastructure and reduce energy consumption. In the agriculture sector, around 18,000 solar tube-well pumps have already been installed, and efforts are underway to further increase this number. Additionally, 185 energy-efficient motors have been installed in the MSME sector, including Verka plants. The government has also successfully implemented rooftop solar projects with a total capacity of 35 MW on government buildings across the state.

Aman Arora emphasized that improving energy efficiency in buildings is a key area for energy savings in the commercial sector. The Punjab government has notified the Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code by amending the National Energy Conservation Building Code to suit the state’s composite climate zone. The code has been implemented by incorporating it into building bye-laws, and so far, 850 buildings have been brought under ECBC compliance.
