President Droupadi Murmu will begin a three-day visit to Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, October 6, with the state government and district administrations making extensive arrangements for her security and movement.
The President’s tour will begin in Bilaspur and later take her to Manali and the Atal Tunnel. The key event of her visit will be her participation in the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Bilaspur, where she will confer degrees on trainee doctors who have completed their medical education.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda is also expected to attend the convocation ceremony.
Security Arrangements Strengthened in Bilaspur
In view of the President’s visit, security arrangements have been intensified in Bilaspur. Police and security personnel have been deployed not only inside the AIIMS campus but also along the routes that the President will use.
Following the convocation ceremony, President Murmu will leave for Manali, where arrangements have been made for her overnight stay.
Visit to Hidimba Temple, Atal Tunnel on October 7
On October 7, the President is scheduled to visit the Hidimba Temple in Manali and the Atal Tunnel Rohtang.
Her visit is expected to result in traffic restrictions and regulated vehicle movement along several routes. Since October is a busy tourist season in Kullu-Manali, the restrictions could affect visitors travelling towards Manali, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel.
Tourists planning to visit these destinations on October 6 and 7 have been advised to plan their journeys according to the traffic arrangements issued by the administration.
Those planning to travel to the Atal Tunnel, in particular, have been advised to avoid travelling during restriction periods and follow the latest traffic advisories issued by the authorities.
Naina Devi Temple Visit Dropped from Earlier Itinerary
The President’s earlier proposed itinerary included a visit to the Shri Naina Devi Temple. However, the programme has subsequently been revised.
Under the revised schedule, President Murmu will travel directly to AIIMS Bilaspur and attend the institute’s first convocation, before proceeding to Manali.
The President will leave Himachal Pradesh for Delhi on the morning of October 8, concluding her three-day visit.
