Chandigarh Administration has declared a public holiday on June 18 (Thursday) to commemorate the Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The decision was announced through an official notification issued by the Home Department on Wednesday.

According to the notification, all government offices, boards, corporations, government institutions, and industrial establishments under the Chandigarh Administration will remain closed on the occasion.

The order has been issued by Home Secretary Diprava Lakra. The notification further states that June 18 was initially listed as a restricted holiday in the Chandigarh Administration’s 2026 holiday calendar. However, the earlier order has now been partially amended, and the day has been declared a full public holiday in observance of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom.

The administration’s decision is aimed at paying tribute to the Sikh Guru and allowing people to observe the occasion with due respect and devotion.
