Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian laid the foundation stone of the ‘Fruit Market–Sri Sant Baba Tara Singh Ji Khushdil Grain, Fruit and Vegetable Jamun Mandi’ in Arniwala, Fazilka district, marking a major development for the region’s agricultural infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Khuddian said the market, being constructed at a cost of approximately ₹10.93 crore, was a long-pending demand of local residents and would provide a modern and organized platform for the trading of agricultural produce. He said the government’s primary objective is to ensure farmers receive fair and remunerative prices for their crops.
Minister noted that the new mandi will benefit farmers, commission agents, traders and consumers by streamlining the marketing of agricultural products. He added that the project is expected to boost commercial and economic activity across the region.
Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj (Goldy) said the foundation stone had been laid after nearly 80 years of waiting for such a facility. He informed that the mandi will be developed over 12 acres and equipped with modern infrastructure, including 18-foot-wide approach and internal roads.
The market complex will feature dedicated sections for vegetables, fruits, cartons, wheat and paddy, along with a special Jamun Mandi, creating a comprehensive agricultural trading hub for farmers and businesses in the area.
