Thousands of passengers across Punjab are expected to face travel disruptions from September 22 as contract workers of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC begin an indefinite strike over their pending demands.
Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union (Punjab 25/11) has announced the strike, warning that state-run bus services will be severely affected across the state. The union claims that more than 2,700 buses are likely to remain off the roads during the protest.
According to union representatives, over 5,500 drivers and conductors are expected to participate in the strike. The move is likely to impact daily commuters, office-goers, students and passengers traveling between districts.
With a significant portion of Punjab’s public transport fleet expected to be unavailable, commuters may face delays and difficulties in finding alternative transportation. Passengers planning to travel on government buses have been advised to check service availability and make alternate arrangements if necessary.
The union has stated that the strike will continue indefinitely until its demands are addressed by the authorities.
