Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to announce a major gift for women on the occasion of Rakhar Punya on Friday. A state-level celebration dedicated to the festival is being organized at Baba Bakala, where several Punjab Cabinet ministers will join the Chief Minister.
During the event, Mann will release financial assistance under the Punjab government’s Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, a welfare scheme aimed at supporting women across the state. According to the government, the initiative has received an enthusiastic response, with more than 76.05 lakh women registering under the scheme so far.
Official figures show that financial assistance worth ₹2,274.42 crore has already been transferred to the bank accounts of 65.62 lakh women beneficiaries. Under the scheme, women from the general category receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to Scheduled Castes are provided ₹1,500 per month as an honorarium.
The state government said the scheme is designed to strengthen the financial security of women and promote their social and economic empowerment. The latest disbursement is expected to benefit lakhs of eligible women across Punjab.
