Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, has served legal notices to Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, demanding an apology within 24 hours over allegations made against her. The notice warns that legal proceedings will be initiated if the two leaders fail to comply.
The controversy stems from allegations made by retired Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ranjit Singh. He had claimed that Dr. Gurpreet Kaur allegedly sought ₹5 crore to suppress a rape case involving Gur Chahal, who was named as the prime accused, and to facilitate the cancellation of a case against a businessman.
On September 2, Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia shared an alleged audio-video clip on social media related to the case. Majithia claimed that the recording contained conversations regarding financial dealings between alleged middlemen connected to the accused and a relative of Dr. Gurpreet Kaur.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira said he had received the legal notice from Dr. Gurpreet Kaur. Reacting strongly, Khaira stated that he would not respond to the notice and challenged her to file a defamation case or take any action through what he described as a “police state.”
The matter has intensified the political confrontation in Punjab, with both opposition leaders standing by their statements while Dr. Gurpreet Kaur seeks legal recourse against the allegations.
