Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh on Monday claimed that the party has all 117 candidates ready for the upcoming Assembly elections and can announce their names at any time.
Addressing a press conference at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Sector 15, Chandigarh, Pargat Singh said the Congress was fully prepared and had finalised its candidates for all 117 Assembly constituencies. Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa was also present during the press conference.
The Congress leaders also reviewed preparations for Rahul Gandhi’s 'Insaaf Rally', scheduled to be held in Sangrur on November 4. Pargat Singh said all arrangements for the rally had been completed. The party had initially expected around one lakh supporters to attend the event, but the turnout was now expected to exceed that figure.
Meanwhile, Partap Singh Bajwa questioned the functioning of central investigative agencies, particularly during election periods. Targeting the Centre, he asked whose directions the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) were following, claiming that everyone knew who was calling the shots.
Bajwa also raised the issue of the bodies of Parvinder Singh Jhota, Daljit Singh and another person, alleging that their last rites had not been performed.
Taking a dig at Kunwar Pratap Singh, Bajwa questioned why the leader, who had been projected as a 'poster boy' during the elections, was allegedly not even being asked about after the passage of four-and-a-half years.
On the political front, Bajwa claimed that new political equations could emerge between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) after Diwali. He indicated that the two parties could move towards contesting the upcoming elections together.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Balbir Singh Sidhu, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla and Dr Raj Kumar Verka, were also present at the press conference.
