In a shocking incident late on the night of April 27, unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire in Bhoma village under Sri Hargobindpur subdivision of Gurdaspur district. Two people died on the spot, while a third sustained critical injuries.

According to reports, Kashmir Singh and Jugraj Singh were out for a routine walk along with another companion when six unidentified attackers, arriving on two motorcycles, suddenly opened heavy fire on them.

In the attack, Kashmir Singh (37) and Jugraj Singh (35) lost their lives, while another Jugraj Singh (36) was seriously injured. Locals reported hearing more than two dozen gunshots during the incident.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mehtab Singh reached the spot soon after receiving information and inspected the scene. He interacted with locals to ascertain the motive behind the attack. Police said they are investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity. As per initial findings, no evidence of extortion or prior threats has surfaced so far.

Following the incident, panic has gripped the area. Police have sealed the locality and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers.

Multiple police teams have been formed and are conducting raids to trace and arrest the accused.
