Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav attended the 67th Police Commemoration Day parade at Chaman Ground in the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) Complex in Jalandhar on Wednesday. He paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives while protecting the country and maintaining law and order.
Speaking on the occasion, Yadav highlighted the action taken by Punjab Police against drug trafficking, gangsters and terrorist networks across the state.
According to figures shared by Punjab Police, more than 95,000 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act since March 2022, while over 1.27 lakh people have been arrested. During this period, the police reported recovering 7,265 kg of heroin and freezing properties worth Rs 902 crore belonging to alleged drug traffickers.

The police also reported a conviction rate of 90 per cent in NDPS cases.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is preparing to launch a special 60-day campaign to curb drug trafficking and strengthen action against those involved in the drug trade.
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann discussed the strategy for the campaign, which will focus on 435 identified drug-affected hotspots across the state.
The planned drive will target 2,913 listed drug sellers and 312 major suppliers in these areas. Along with the police, the Health, Education and Sports departments will participate in the campaign.
The government also plans to adopt a broader approach to tackling drug abuse by improving infrastructure and support services in affected areas. The proposed measures include installing CCTV cameras and streetlights, developing sports grounds, strengthening de-addiction services and encouraging young people to participate in sports.
The campaign aims to combine enforcement against drug networks with preventive measures and community-level interventions to address the problem of drug abuse in Punjab.
