Responding to a call by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), thousands of farmers from across Punjab marched to Chandigarh on Friday, leading to major traffic disruptions and congestion across several parts of the city.

Farmers assembled at the Sector 34 Exhibition Ground for a massive sit-in and rally. Until around 2 pm, groups of farmers continued arriving in buses, tractor-trolleys, and trucks, significantly increasing traffic movement on key routes leading into Chandigarh.

The heavy influx of protesters forced Chandigarh Police to divert traffic on multiple roads and issue a public traffic advisory. Several routes were temporarily altered, causing long traffic jams and delays for commuters. Many residents had to take longer alternative routes to reach their destinations.

To manage the situation, police deployed additional personnel at key intersections and along major roads. Authorities appealed to the public to follow the revised traffic plan and use alternate routes to avoid unnecessary delays.

Meanwhile, large crowds of farmers were also seen gathering at liquor outlets after reaching the city, adding to the rush in several areas near the rally venue.
