Punjab Government has promoted 70 Inspectors of the Punjab Police to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), providing long-awaited relief to officers who had been awaiting promotion for several years.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, the promoted officers include 50 Inspectors from the District Cadre and 20 from the Armed Cadre. They have been inducted into the Punjab Police Service in Pay Level-18, carrying a salary scale of ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500.
The promotions have been granted on the recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), which met on May 23, 2025. The notification stated that the officers have been appointed to the DSP rank in accordance with their position in the seniority list and applicable service rules.
The move is expected to boost the morale of the police force, particularly among officers who had been serving as Inspectors for a prolonged period. Besides attaining a higher rank, the promoted officers will also benefit from a significant increase in pay and service benefits.
The government, however, has attached certain conditions to the promotions. The elevation to the DSP rank will take effect immediately but will remain subject to a one-year probationary period. During this time, the officers’ performance and service records will be reviewed in accordance with prescribed rules.
The notification further clarified that if there are any changes in the seniority list or if objections, disputes, or judicial proceedings arise in the future, the promotions may be reconsidered as per the applicable regulations.
