Punjab government on Tuesday transferred ₹1,100 crore directly into the bank accounts of women aged 18 years and above under its financial assistance scheme. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the disbursement from Dhuri in Sangrur, his home district.

Under the scheme, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category will receive ₹1,500 per month.
For the first time, the government released three months' assistance in a single installment. As a result, women in the general category received ₹3,000, while SC beneficiaries received ₹4,500 directly into their bank accounts.

A woman attending CM Mann's rally in Dhuri received a message on her mobile phone, after which she showed the message to the CM.
During the event, one of the women present received the first SMS confirming the credit in her account. Addressing the gathering, CM Bhagwant Mann said that around 40 lakh women had registered for the scheme by Tuesday. He added that the amount transferred covers the assistance for July, August and September.
