Punjab Government is encouraging farmers to adopt horticulture and high-value crops alongside traditional farming to increase their income, with mushroom cultivation being promoted as an additional source of livelihood.

Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat said farmers can avail themselves of a subsidy of up to 40%, subject to a maximum of ₹80,000, for setting up mushroom production units. The financial assistance is aimed at helping farmers start mushroom cultivation and generate additional income.

Bhagat said mushroom production requires relatively less land, making it particularly suitable for small and marginal farmers. He added that the government is focusing on promoting profitable and sustainable farming practices through modern agricultural technologies, government schemes and financial assistance.

Minister said farmers can benefit from various schemes of the Horticulture Department and increase their earnings through crop diversification. He urged farmers to explore high-value crops and horticulture-based activities to reduce dependence on traditional farming and create new income opportunities.
