Punjab Government has announced relief for electricity consumers affected by provisional or inflated power bills. Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said that 63,702 consumers impacted by provisional billing during the meter readers’ strike will continue to receive the benefit of 300 free electricity units under the state scheme.
Minister said billing issues arose due to the April-July 2026 meter readers’ strike and PSPCL’s transition to a new unified billing system. To address consumer grievances, PSPCL has introduced software fixes and new safeguards to detect unusually high bills before they are issued.
A dedicated helpline will be launched soon, while a special team of 20 PSPCL officials has been deployed to handle complaints. Sond assured that genuine billing errors will be corrected within 15 days and consumers will ultimately pay only for the electricity they have actually consumed.
PSPCL CMD Dr. Basant Garg said payments already made by consumers will be adjusted in their accounts wherever necessary.
