A bomb threat email sent to the Punjab and Haryana Assembly building in Chandigarh triggered panic among security agencies on Thursday, prompting an immediate security alert across the complex and surrounding areas.
Soon after the threat was received, police teams, the Operation Cell, Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad were rushed to the Assembly premises. Security personnel launched an extensive search of the complex and inspected different sections for any suspicious objects.
The Bomb Disposal Squad examined suspicious items, while the Dog Squad conducted searches across the premises as a precautionary measure. A high alert was also sounded in the surrounding area following the threat.
Police and security agencies have launched an investigation to identify the source of the email and the person who sent it. Cyber teams are also examining the email electronically to trace its origin.
The police said the investigation is currently underway, and further details are awaited.
