Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted an alleged cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of three persons and the recovery of 10 foreign-made sophisticated .30-bore pistols along with magazines, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Daljit Singh and Gurjant Singh, both residents of Singhoki village in Amritsar district, and Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Nisoke village in the same district. Police have also impounded the motorcycle allegedly used to transport the illegal weapons.

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with a foreign-based handler who allegedly used encrypted communication platforms to evade police surveillance and facilitate illegal arms consignments. The weapons were intended to be supplied to criminal elements through an organised distribution network, he added.

Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said CI Amritsar received specific intelligence that Daljit Singh and Arshdeep Singh, accompanied by Gurjant Singh, had retrieved a fresh cache of firearms allegedly dropped by a drone in the Ramdas sector. The trio was reportedly travelling on a black motorcycle towards the Verka Bypass in Amritsar to deliver the weapons to another party.

Acting on the intelligence, CI Amritsar teams conducted a raid and intercepted the three accused near the Fatehgarh Shukarchak underpass on the Verka Bypass. During the operation, police recovered 10 foreign-made .30-bore pistols along with magazines from their possession.

DGP said further investigation was underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the network and identify other individuals involved in the alleged smuggling operation.

In this connection, an FIR (No. 70 dated October 27, 2026) has been registered at the Police Station, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, under Sections 25, 25(1A), 25(1B), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act, along with Sections 61(2) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
